Missing Mom

Today marks the 24th anniversary of my mom's passing at age 45.

I often wonder how different my life would be today if she was still around here. All I know is that there is a large hole in my heart that is still healing, after all these years. As a Christian, I know my mom is safe, healthy, and youthful once more. I have felt her presence many many times since the day she went home. She was by my side when my furbaby Aubreea went home, I felt it as sure as I feel the wind.

But I would be lying if I said I totally understand why God called her home at such a young age. I still struggle with this at times. All I know is that I miss her hugs, her advice, her voice, the way she cooked wonderful meals and the skill she had in knitting and crocheting amazing afghan blankets and scarves. I miss sitting at home with her on Friday nights, ordering pizza from Domino's and watching two or three movies on the VCR. I miss the look on her face when I gave her away at her wedding when she and the man who became my stepfather were wed back in the late 1980's. I miss the joy in her eyes and the pride in her heart when I graduated from high school. I miss our times on vacation to Branson, Missouri; Nashville, Tennessee; and Key West, Florida.

I just miss her.

I love you, Mom. May I one day eventually make it home to heaven to be with you again. When I finally get there, the first thing I will do is find you, and hug you for a long, long, long time, with Aubreea in our arms.
